What’s the Deal With Ingestible Collagen?

When the Internet adopts a beauty trend, it goes in hard. And kind of like smart watches, ingestible collagen supplements have been showing up in every gift bag, beauty pitch and conversation we’ve had over the last few months.

At first the idea sounded a little nutso. Drinking collagen? How was that going to help anything.

But then friends started claiming they were seeing results and then we started listening.  It turns out, we just didn’t understand collagen.

Collagen is a protein that strengthens bones, muscles and skin. And when the natural production of it slows down (thank you aging), that’s when your skin starts to look old.  For us, understanding this simple little process made all of the difference.  Collagen wasn’t just something people were injecting, like vitamins, it’s something our body actually needs to function. And all of these beauty brands creating ingestible collagen supplements to help boost natural levels? Doesn’t sound so crazy now.

The question now becomes, does it work?  We found an article on Vogue.com, where actual medical professionals weighed in on the issue.  The consensus: We don’t know if it helps but we don’t think it hurts so long as it is from a reputable source.

Good enough for us and apparently everyone else in the industry…

So here’s our question: How many of you have tried it? What were your results? Is this worth all of the hype?

I was just reading an article in Naturally Danny Seo about collagen. It has benefits beyond smoothing skin. It can strengthen bones and joints, improve gut health, and help sleep as well.
