We are always talking red lipstick around here because we consider it to be a staple. But with the changing of the seasons comes the need to revamp that red. Out with the crimson and in with what Crayola so brilliantly dubbed “red-orange.”
If you have ever gone on the hunt for the perfect red for any season, you know making the switch is easier said than done, especially when you start considering other factors outside of color – like longevity, finish and cost. When it comes to affordable and easily wearable options, it should come as no surprise that the office favorite is Clinique’s Chubby Stick in Heftiest Hibiscus. It’s easy to apply and goes on like a chapstick, but the color is still bright without bleeding, which is more than we can say for so many other lip stains. All that for a cool $17.
If you’re willing to spend a little more scratch, we couldn’t recommend Tom Ford’s Lip Color in Wild Ginger more highly. When we want a polished pout, it’s our go-to.
Even though we automatically gravitate toward orangier reds in Spring, not all reds work for all faces. So it’s possible you need to brighten up your lip by picking a rid that is less orange and just all around brighter. If your coloring is on the light side, the best we have tested is Giorgio Armani’s Lip Maestro in 402. The texture is like velvet and the color is perfect for day or night. For brunettes or those with darker coloring, our recommendation is Revlon’s Ravish Me Red. Can’t beat that drugstore price tag.
But that’s just us. Let loose in the comments and tell us what else we should all be trying.
