Nail polish falls into the category of, what I like to call, little luxuries – things that make me feel good about myself but have a price point that doesn’t break the bank. So when I have spent my monthly allotment on clothing for the month (and then some) or just need to go out and buy something to lift the spirits, nail lacquer always seems to do the trick. The color options are endless, the bottles are beautiful and painting my nails is relaxing. And lady, let me tell you, I need to relax.
My obsession with nail polish started with Hard Candy (who am I kidding, it was all about those plastic rings on top) and evolved to focus solely on OPI (there was a time when You Don’t Know Jacques and Russian Navy were the only colors I would wear). These days, my nail lacquer world has broadened to include newer lines. For example, the new Oscar De La Renta polishes are a good luxury polish option that isn’t too pricy (Flirt is a gorgeous pearly white) and if you want to spend a little extra money, Tom Ford’s Black Sugar is a beautiful taupe with a red fleck in it that is both edgy and classic. Deborah Lippman (who also has some great nail care products), Julep and NARS (how sick is this Pierre Hardy/NARS duo?) are some other less obvious polishes to try.
But the well-priced old faithful will always be Essie. For only $8 a pop, the colors are consistently changing and are great. My favorites for fall are Carry On, Vested Interest, After School Boy Blazer and Cashmere Bathrobe (see below).
Essie also has a great topcoat that dries fast and leaves your nails shiny. If you are looking for a more matte finish on your nails, don’t go out and buy Matte color. Instead, Butter London’s Matte Finish Top Coat will take any nail color and flatten it right out. It’s pretty amazing and feels almost like you have two nail colors in one. Which is genius.
When it comes to removing nail polish, I love these RGB nail polish remover pads. They are single use and are strong enough to take off both hands of nail polish. Not to mention, they are so much easier to carry around than polish remover (and who are we kidding, it’s all about mobility).
What are you loving for fall?
