The reasons why beauty experts tout adding a toner to your skincare routine are pretty standard. For example, it shrinks pores, gives your skin pH balance (i.e., it can make it less oily), prevents the penetration of impurities and moisturizes and refreshes skin. Any takers?
Point being, there’s not a person out there who shouldn’t be using a one. If your only experience with toner ended with burning skin and a dried out face, it’s time to try again. Here are two of our go-tos that we couldn’t recommend more highly:
- Sunday Riley’s Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner – This one is our favorite simply because it immediately melts from a treatment gel to a water toner as it is massaged into the skin. So not only does it work, but it’s also really cool (pun most certainly intended). So what’s in it? Bentonite clay mattifies excess oil while visibly reducing pore size. Marshmallow and green tea soothe and diminish the look of redness, while cucumber and witch hazel extracts, tones and tighten. Too much info? Here’s all you need to know: After using this toner skin is mattified and prepped for further skin care or makeup application. It also helps to keep foundation set all day.
- Darphin Paris Intral Toner – Made with 100% natural ingredients, the Darphin line is renowned worldwide for its transformational results and we have to agree. Not only do they feel luxurious, but they use essential oils to make them so the natural components smell pretty amazing as well. The benefits of this toner are almost identical to the Sunday Riley formula (soothed and calmed skin ready for makeup), but if you’ve got sensitive skin, this is the toner for you.
