Susan Ciminelli isn’t the first to tap the depths of the ocean in order to combat aging and achieve glowing skin. Always looking for the next “miracle” ingredient, algae has become something akin to a super-food for the skincare industry. Think Kale for your skin. But forget the hype. The real question is, does it work?
According to Riva Barak, the Product Development Manager of Algenist, “Algae makes a great natural moisturizer that improves skin’s barrier function and helps it retain water.” As card carrying members of the dry skin cadre, all we need is the promise of hydration and we’d try just about anything. So if covering our body in slimy green algae equals dewy skin, we are buying it hook, line and sinker.
We started our search with Susan Ciminelli’s products, mostly because when it comes to oceanic beauty, she’s somewhat cornered the market. We have shared our love for her marine lotion in the past, so we thought it high time we delved a little deeper into the depths of the oceanic potions she offers. We haven’t made it all the way through her offerings, but our favorite algae based products so far? The Algae Fine Powder and Algae Deep Cleanse. Sure they smell a little more like organic marine life than BVLGARI’s AQVA and the powder can be a bit of a mess to clean out of the tub, but the visible effects after using the products are undeniable. Think seaweed wrap in the comfort of your home without the luxury spa price-tag. Totally worth it.
