Although I do head into an office at times, because so much of our content is produced around “living” spaces, a large portion of our TKC work is currently housed out of my, well, house. So when it came time to design the study, it was important to remember that it would essentially serve as TKC’s office.
Here’s the breakdown for what we have planned (and in some cases, installed!).
- For starters, I knew I wanted a dark and moody room. All of the other rooms in the house have white walls, so I wanted to make sure we had one dark and moody space. I searched forever for the right green/gray to compliment the black doors to the study and finally settled on Benjamin Moore’s Desert Twilight. If you’ve been following along on Instastories you’ve seen it on the walls. Needless to say, I love it and decided to paint the entire room (moldings, walls, window casings, etc.) in the shade.
- The light fixtures in the house just went in last week. We have had this Possini Euro Design chandelier from Lamps Plus hanging out in our garage for a few months, so I was excited to see it up. It looks amazing and the price point is excellent.
- When it comes to the desk, we decided to stick with the West Elm desk I already have. I am on the lookout for a cool vintage piece a little more in keeping with our design inspiration to replace it when we’ve gotten a little further with the other spaces.
- By the grace of God I ran across a furniture warehouse sale this weekend and grabbed a vintage wingback chair for $10 that I intend to use as the desk chair. It has to be completely recovered, so I’m on the hunt for a traditional British looking fabric. If you’ve got recommendations…
So that’s what we have for now! In the end we will also need a rug (I’m thinking a vintage Persian or Turkish rug), drapes (Restoration Hardware is currently having a big sale on the velvet ones I want) and a clothing rack for samples and clothing for shoots. We will probably eventually set up a sitting area as well. But all in time… Right?
For now, if we can just get me a desk to sit at and some internet, I’ll be good to go.
