The Magic of a Good Slip Dress

The Magic of a Good Slip Dress

I’ve been looking for a good slip dress for a long time. The whole silk slip thing felt very Carolyn Bessette and I wanted in.

But here’s the rub: Silk is basically the most unforgiving fabric maybe ever. Couple that with a shifty dress cut to hug your hips, well, you know where I’m headed. Needless to say, I’ve had a hard time finding the right one.

Recently, I ran across a slip by Everlane made of a Japanese fabric called triacetate. It claimed to be crease-resistant and cooling, while still maintaining that silky drape I was after. What was more, it even came in subtle shades like blush and mint, perfect for the muted color palette I had planned for my summer. Figuring this might be my last chance to secure a slip, I ordered the mint and crossed my fingers and toes.

I am proud to report that the fabric does everything it claims to. It’s all the Carolyn Bessette without the clingyness. Imperfect stomachs rejoice!

After I wore it twice in one weekend (while traveling and then to the pool over a swimsuit), I was also pretty grateful for that whole anti-wrinkle thing. Oh, and it’s machine washable. Basically, it’s perfect.

The whole thing feels very chic without trying too hard, basically my dream.
