Your shopping is close to done (if not, head here pronto) and presents are wrapped, so what should you be focused on now? It’s time to refresh your bar cart, or stock one from scratch, in time for all of that family that is sure to be headed your way in t-minus two days.
And while you’re at it, take the festivity up a notch. Because what Santa really wants with his cookies is bourbon on the rocks.
- The Cart. If you already have a cart, no need to find something new. You could also use a cabinet, a console or a kitchen shelf if the location is right. But if you are set on a cart and have started the search, we love the one we used here. It’s from Target and totally affordable.
- The Basics. Now that you’ve got a cart, it’s time to stock it. Let’s start with the basics – i.e., the booze. If you are in fact starting from scratch, begin with tried and true favorites, such as vodka, gin and rum. Throw in a bottle of bourbon and one or two bottles of wine. And don’t forget mixers such as sparkling water and juice! Work out a budget and then hit the liquor store.
- The Tools. There are also important tools you’ll want on hand, such as a mixing glass, a muddler and a stirrer/spoon. Looking for a good deal on a set? The Mixology 7-Piece Barware Set from West Elm has the basics covered.
- The Decor. Think about the vibe you want your cart to have and then go from there. We went with red and metallic accents to complement the subtle decor we have around the house and pulled out the festive glassware. Our fav additions? These striped straws and gold confetti paper coasters.
Honestly, that’s it. One trip to the store, a little pre-planning and it’s time to pop the champagne. Now just make sure to have a glass prepped and ready before family arrives and you’re sure to nip any of that holiday bickering in the proverbial bud.
