Now that the risks of sand, sun and sea have taken a proverbial backseat for the months immediately before us (see ya next year summer!), we find ourselves attached to our blow-dryer and wrapped up in our straightening iron more than ever. And while we are loving our sleek mane (finally, no frizz), our locks can’t take the heat.
So as to avoid breakage and unintentional fringe (no, I did not cut bangs), we have started the long and hearty debate here at #TeamTKC about the best way to protect our coif from the onslaught of rising temps. We’ve put together a few of our favorites, but we’re sure there are more—so be sure to tell us all about what’s in your beauty bag in the comments, and let us know how you’re protecting your hair from the self-induced heat-wave that is Fall/Winter.
1. The Cream: We’ve sort of fallen in love with Bumble and Bumble’s Repair Blow Dry–apply it to clean damp hair before breaking out the dryer. This serum-in-creme elixir for dry or damaged hair helps seal split ends and protects against heat, breakage and UV damage, too (just because you’re wearing a parka doesn’t mean the sun can’t get you). Not to mention, it keeps styles looking healthy for up to 3 days – a bonus because the number one way to protect your hair from the heat is to put some distance between you and your hair dryer.
2. The Oil: We will forever flock to oils, because when one product does double duty – smooths and protects – you can count us as fans. Now, don’t let Rene Furterer’s Solaire Protective Summer Oil’s use of the word “summer” fool you, this oil is just as good at reinforcing your hair’s natural anti-dehydration film and protecting your hair in the colder months as it is in the dead of heat.
3. The Spray: One factor we look for in heat protection products (aside from, you know, protection from advanced temperatures), is a non-greasy result. We want our hair unbroken, not slicked down. TRESemme’s Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray passes the test with shiny colors. In fact, it leaves hair so shiny and soft, we use it even when we’ve left our hot tools cold. Because when something works this well…
