The Current State of the Living Room

Our living room is still a work in progress, but I’ve been promising a look into where we ended up for awhile, so thought it was time to just pull back the curtain.

So here you have it, our living room.

A few things of note:

  1. You will notice we used a fan in this room instead of a light fixture. To be honest, I don’t particularly love ceiling fans.  But we live in Texas and it gets hot, so some rooms just call for them whether you want one or not.  We actually used this same fan from Lamps Plus in our old house and I loved it. If you’re in the same boat (i.e., don’t love fans but practically need one), I highly recommend selecting a fan with a metal finish and without a light kit, like this one.
  2. We mixed the art on the walls with original pieces I inherited, originals we nabbed from Saatchi Art (the best place to find original pieces) and inexpensive prints from Society6. I am happy with the way the mix turned out.
  3. The sectional and the coffee table are the ones we had in our old living room. I still love them both so they stayed put.
  4. The Jack Chair’s from Schoolhouse Electric were our dream item, but we ended up finding a more neutral chair I also really liked because of it’s more wingback/modern look.  The space ended up being larger than originally anticipated, so we added these fabulous cowhide loungers as well and I’m obsessed.
  5. We went with a more modern shiplap fireplace at the recommendation of our builder.  It wasn’t what I originally saw in the space, but I am adjusting to it.

I think there are ultimately some changes are going to need to make in order to make it feel more full (like printed pillows, etc.) and designed, but it’s clean and usable.  Which is more than I can say for a few weeks ago.  So, you know, progress.
