What is the definition of a good primer? Does it get your skin perfectly smooth before applying makeup, such that said base doesn’t find itself caked and clogged to portions of your skin? Or is a good primer one that makes your skin smooth to the touch as well as the eye, giving you the freedom to walk around bare-skinned if you so desire?
I would venture to argue, it’s both.
I’ve used a lot of primers, and while most of them make my makeup look better, it’s very rare that I run across one that actually makes my skin look better. I’ve bragged before about the La Mer Perfecting Treatment and how velvety my skin feels the minute I apply it, but I’ve recently discovered a new product I’m super into.
REN Clean Skincare makes a primer aptly dubbed the Perfect Canvas. Essentially, it is a light textured, silicone free primer that is perfect to use after moisturizer. Skin is smoothed, plumped, primed and ready for make-up. Or not, depending on which direction you are leaning today.
My biggest kudo? It’s super silky and light. So it doesn’t feel like you are adding a lot of product to your face and doesn’t leave skin super shiny. So while I still stand behind the perfection that is the La Mer Perfecting Treatment, if you’re looking for something a little easier on your pocketbook, REN’s Perfect Canvas is an excellent alternative.
