Cleansing: Biore’s Charcoal Bar

We are borderline obsessed with blackheads. Call it the instant gratification we get from attempts at removing them, but there is nothing we love more than a good extraction or ripping off a Biore Pore Strip and checking out what had been lurking beneath our skin. So, so gross. Also, insanely awesome. You know what we’re talking about.

Needless to say, while we can sometimes be a bit lackadaisical about other areas of skincare, fighting blackheads isn’t one of them.

Our current of-the-moment blackhead combat tool is activated charcoal for its ability to combat toxins and pollutants in your skin. We have been using charcoal masks pretty regularly (and by regularly we mean once a week, as instructed), but were recently introduced to a little black soap – Biore’s Charcoal Bar – that is better suited for daily use.

Maybe it seems counterintuitive to be using a black soap to cleanse your pores, but the activated charcoal draws out dirt and exfoliating jojoba beads leave skin with two and a half times cleaner pores than a basic cleanser. If it unclogged our pores, we’d paint our face neon pink, so a black soap isn’t much to get over all things considered. Besides, aside from the color, the bar behaves pretty much like any other bar of soap – it lathers nicely and, while it contains an exfoliant, doesn’t feel scratchy against our cheeks (we know pain is beauty, but if we can do without it we will).

The only downside? With cleaner pores, our Pore Strips aren’t nearly as fun to look at it.

How would this be for different skin types though, for instance my combination, extremely sensitive skin?

I love charcoal! My favorite is Dark Angels Cleanser from Lush. But yeah.. those pore strips are kind of a weird addiction aren’t they? I feel like I’m gambling to win big every time I rip one off.

Okay you’ve convinced me, I’ve just bought one (Priceline in Australia has them $3.49). I’ll let you know how I get on with it. The peppermint scent was surprising.
