As a part of the new Tomboy KC (rolling out so soon we can hardly handle it), we are going to be launching a new category called “Bookmark”. Consider it a place to read our reading recommendations (be they paperback or internet), discover those of our friends and make recommendations of your own. It’s one of the features we are the most excited about. To get us started off right, we’ve got A-list interviewer and style expert (and blogger in her own right), the fabulous E! News Correspondent, Alicia Quarles.
“Living in the city that never sleeps and working in the go, go, go TV industry, it can be difficult to find peace and calm your mind. It’s also all too easy to get caught up in negativity: gossiping, harping on our own imperfections instead of appreciating our good qualities and living in regret instead of living in the moment. The first time I heard about “The Four Agreements” was thanks to my makeup artist who read it after Oprah raved about it on her show. At the time, I was looking for something to fill my soul & help me to be the best me possible. I fell in love with the agreements which are tools to help you live a happier, simpler life.
The author, Don Miguel Ruiz, was born and raised in Mexico and comes from a long line of spiritual healers which the Four Agreements are rooted in. The premise is simple. Be Impeccable With Your Words. Don’t Take Anything Personally. Don’t Make Assumptions. Always Do Your Best. Practicing and maintaining them is anything but easy which is why I’m currently re-reading this book as a kind of tune up. As busy women we are pulled in so many different directions, asked to seemingly be perfect and not to complain. You may have it all, but are you happy? Living by the agreements has brought me peace no matter how crazy the day can get or whatever negativity is around me. ”
