I am a sweater.
No, not the wool kind. Rather, I am a person who sweats a lot. Chalk it up to the Texas heat or genetics, either way, when the heat hits the pavement sweat hits my face and it ain’t pretty. (Think opening day on the Biggest Loser.)
Absent packing my bags and moving to the Antartic, I’m left with little to no recourse every summer. Which is why, come June, I stock up on blotting papers. Because if you’re gonna sweat, you might as well be graceful about it.
What exactly are blotting papers, you ask? Well, they are a box of papers. That you use to blot your face. Seriously, it’s that simple. For ladies with sweat droplets dripping down their lip or oil ruining their makeup game, they might also be known as lifesavers.
The truth of the matter is, I stock up on them and leave them in my purse because I forget I need them. It’s not until I am walking into a party or headed out to dinner with friends and my upper lip turns into a swimming pool that I think “Oh yeah, my blotting papers.” And then I reach into my bag, blot that unappreciated water off of my face, leaving my makeup firmly in tact. (Which, by the way, is why you use blotting papers instead of any old napkin. The whole makeup effect. No one has time to do that the first time, much less fix it on the go.)
You might remember a few months ago when a couple of our makeup artist friends (here and here) added the Tatcha papers to their Top five list. (Top five people. As in, if they could only have five things in their makeup bag blotting papers would be one of them.) I’m not that fancy (although the Tatcha papers are only a buck or two more expensive…) and stick with the Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens and the Shiseido Sweat & Oil Blotting Paper and couldn’t recommend them more highly.
Whatever direction you go, the point is this: Get you some blotting papers and get ’em fast. Summer is here and perspiration is coming in hot.
